Frequently Asked Questions

How do I start a new game?

Games are started by tapping on the Fish on! license plate at the top of the home page.

Do I have to be in the same place as my Rival to play against them?

No! Reel Rivals will allow you to play against your rival no matter where they are. You’re in Texas and your rival is in Michigan? No problem. When setting up a game, simply select open locations from the location menu and anyone you challenge will then be able to designate their location when they accept your challenge.

How does the scoring in the game work?

Points are awarded based on the type of fish caught and the size of the fish. The game will automatically calculate the score when you log a catch.

Additionally, for one on one, singles and team tournaments, bonus points are awarded for the first fish, last fish, longest fish and heaviest fish caught during the game.

Is the scoring the same no matter where you are?

Yes and no. It depends on the type of fish you are catching. With some species, the scoring is the same no matter where you are. With others it changes based on location.

For example, Largemouth Bass are typically much larger in the southern states then in northern states and Northern Pike are typically much larger in northern states then in southern states. So we've added a handicap based on location to keep the playing field as level as possible.

What types of fish count in the game?

We’ve focused on the most predominant freshwater game species in the US to allow for maximum competition. The species include Crappie, Sunfish, Bass, Trout, Carp, Catfish, Pike and Perch.

Within the species we’ve then designated types. For example, the Bass species includes Largemouth, Smallmouth, Spotted, Striper, Hybrid and White Bass.

Can I set up a game for only one species of fish?

Yes! When setting up a game, you have the option to select the species of fish you want to target. If you want to make all fish eligible, just check the box to select all species when setting up a game.

How will I know that someone I'm playing against logged a catch?

The game will send a notification to your phone anytime a new catch is logged by any rival you are currently competing against in a live game.

Important: You must have notifications enabled for this to
work. To enable notifications, go to your player profile, tap on the Profile tab at the top, scroll down and check the box next to Receive Push Notifications, then hit save.

Is a warning given when time is about to expire in a game?

Yes. For one on one, singles and team tounraments, a 15 minute warning will be sent out before the game ends.

Important: You must have notifications enabled for this to
work. To enable notifications, go to your player profile, tap on the Profile tab at the top, scroll down and check the box next to Receive Push Notifications, then hit save.

Can I view previous games and previous catches?

Yes! To view previous games, tap on the Fish on! license plate at the top of the home page, then select one of the game types. Tap on the history tab at the top of the screen and it will show you any previous games you’ve played in that game mode. Each game mode will contain a history of any games you played within that game mode.

Within the history you can click on the Catch Log to see all the catches you logged within that game. Tap on any of the fish and a detailed breakdown of that catch will appear. Tap on the picture to expand it to full screen. Tapping on share at the bottom will allow you to save the picture to your phone or share it on any platform connected to your phone.

How many people can be in a team for a team tournament?

For the teams tournament game mode, each team can have between 2-5 players.

See the Teams Tournament video above for more detail on how to set up a teams tournament.
